The Cortachy Stone

The B955 road to Glen Prosen runs north from Kirriemuir. Follow it until you see the turning for Cortachy, ignore this and take the small road leading down to the Scottish Woodlands cottage on the left. Park here, follow the track up through the wood until you are in an open field - look to the west and you'll see the stone about a quarter of a mile away in the distance. There is a fence to negotiate. It was deep snow the day I visited (31/1/03) and tracks of hare and pheasant were all over the place!

The stone itself is around 6 feet tall, with no discernible markings, and several quartz veins running through it.
