The Menmuir 1 Stone

The stone - cross face
The stone - reverse face
Now resident in Pictavia, off the A90 by Brechin. This stone, for conservation reasons, is behind glass - and as a result is a bit of a nightmare to photograph, as you can see. I've done my best....
A very worn cross-slab which was discovered leaning against the north wall of Menmuir Church, NO534643 near Edzell. The front - cross has an irregular key pattern, but most of the sculpture is defaced or worn. There is a figure in the lower right panel. The rear shows two mounted warriors, the upper with a coiled fish creature above him and a sea-beast above his right shoulder (Sutherland). The lower also features a man brandishing a club (?) behind the warrior.
